About Us
My name is Chris and I've been transgendered for as long as I can remember.
From my earliest memories I knew that I was a boy, despite everyone's insistence that I was not.
However, even as a child I knew the consequences of making my feelings known and so I never said anything.
In general, FTM (female-to-male) transgendered people have it a lot easier than MTF (male-to-female) persons. This is because society is usually more tolerant toward girls behaving in a masculine manner than they are of boys behaving in a feminine manner.
For example, a girl behaving in a masculine manner is often called a "tomboy" (socially acceptible), but a boy behaving in a feminine manner is called a "sissy" (not socially acceptible).
I think part of this is due to the expectation that tomboys will grow out of their gender inconsistent behavior, but sissies will not.
However, for me, I did NOT grow out of it. In fact, as I got older I became more and more masculine in my feelings and behavior. This didn't make me too popular with my family nor other people.
So, What's this Site About?
Unlike most sites you see on the Internet about transgendered people, this site is not about my transition via hormones, as I have not taken any.
Although I have very strong transgendered feelings I have not taken hormones for many reasons (article about why will be forthcoming).
I decided to create this site because many other transgendered people either choose not to, or are unable to obtain hormones to transition, and so this site is about what it is like to be trans, research into the biological causes of gender identity, and other issues related to being transgendered in a world that has rigid gender roles for males and females and intolerance for anyone who doesn't fit neatly into their assigned category.
Why an Invisible Man?
I chose the name www.an-invisibleman.com for this site because that is what I am. I am an invisible man. That is what most or all ftm transgendered persons are unless they've taken testosterone to change their appearance.
It seems that no matter what I do to try to change my appearance to one that is more masculine that people still refer to me as a "woman." And that is why I am an invisible man. No one looks at me and sees a man (except me).
I'm guessing that there are many ftm transgendered persons who are currently going through the same thing and that is why I decided to create this site.
We are a brand new site and eventually we hope to have a forum so that other people can share their stories/experiences as well.
